A Line in the Sand

As the election heats up we are hearing more and more about the issue of abortion. During a recent debate, Rick Warren asked "when does a baby have human rights?" McCain answered decisively: at conception. Take a moment to think what this means. If a fertilized egg has human rights what happens to birth control, the morning after pill, in vitro fertilization, and stem cell research? Will miscarriages be investigated to rule out manslaughter or worse?

There is increasing pressure to totally revoke the right to abortion as evidenced by the opinions of John McCain and his new running mate Sarah Palin. As technology, medicine, and social conditions change policies concerning abortion will change too. A lot has happened in the 35 years since Roe v Wade became law. However there is a point where one must take a stand. The bottom line? A woman's health has priority over the fetus at all times and a fertilized egg is not a human being with human rights.

The extreme right is not just trying to outlaw abortion, they are trying to outlaw birth control . Their fight is not just against abortion, it is against extramarital sex. This trend needs to be stopped in its tracks. A women's right to birth control, including the morning after pill should not be on the table for discussion. No victim of rape should be denied the morning after pill because of another's belief that a ball of cells take precedence over a living breathing human being. Carrying a fetus to term cannot come at the expense of a woman's life or health. These are non-negotiable issues.

A fertilized egg is entitled to human rights. Think about it.

Rick Warren "AT WHAT POINT IS A BABY ENTITLED TO HUMAN RIGHTS?"
John McCain "AT THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION."

Buffy the Cat

Since we are showing off our pets I'm starting off with Buffy, one of our three pets. Buffy is about 14 years old. She was found in our driveway when she was a tiny kitten. No idea where she came from- it was as if she had dropped from heaven. Buffy is a strange cat- I'm sure it was from the trauma of being abandoned by her mother at such an early age. She is little- still looks like a kitten. The squirrels have no respect for her. She will try and pretend to stalk one but the squirrels have no fear.

Buffy and my son are pals- I don't know what she's going to do when he leaves for college this fall.

Hook, Line, and Sinker

"Apologetics are like bait. Now if you go fishing with bait and no hook, you're not going to get any fish. You may get some fat, happy fish that get away, but if you want to be effective you use the bait to disguise the hook. When the fish come around, you pull the hook in. The bait is apologetical argument, you use different bait for different people, or different fish..." Ray Comfort.

Atheist Central is Ray's fishing hole. He baits his hook with crockaducks, atheist starter kits, false quotes from Einstein, bananas, and coke cans. The hook is an emotional appeal using God's law "because everybody knows, when you bring out those commandments, that they've, that they've violated them, that they've broken them and that they're going to need God's forgiveness on the day of judgment. And it's a good, strong hook that we should never fail to use when we're sharing our faith." Unfortunately although atheists frequently rise to bait they are never caught by the hook. Ray is content to let the atheists strip his hook because although the fish gets away today, he thinks he has pricked the heart with God's Law and one day he will be able to reel that fish into the fold. Ray's goal is to get his message heard by any means fair or foul. It is not in his interest to be rational and moderate. The truth of evolution is irrelevant. Bashing evolution draws atheist to his blog like flies to dung. No matter what evidence is given or how many times he is corrected Ray sticks to his guns and continues to post lies, misleading statements, and insults. Why? Because that's his plan. Bait the atheists.

The Anti Rape Condom

Hey Guys- what do you think of this? This device is worn by women to deter rape. If a man has intercourse with a woman who is wearing one his penis is punctured by plastic barbs that must be removed by a physician. On one hand I think this is the greatest idea ever but on the other I am afraid it would escalate the violence against women. Read more about it here.
